Daniel Theis Returns to NBA with Four-Year Contract

Houston Rockets Sign German Center

Details and Highlights of Theis' Contract

Former Indiana Pacers center Daniel Theis has found a new home in the NBA, signing a four-year, $36 million contract with the Houston Rockets, according to multiple reports. The deal was reportedly agreed upon on Monday, bringing Theis back to the NBA after a brief stint in Europe. The Rockets are expected to give Theis a more prominent role than he had in Indiana, where he averaged 12.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in the 2022-23 season. Houston is rebuilding its roster after a disappointing campaign, and they view Theis as a key piece in their young core. Theis is set to earn $8.9 million in the 2023-24 season, the first year of the contract. His salary will increase slightly over the next three seasons, with him making $9.3 million in 2024-25, $9.7 million in 2025-26, and $9.9 million in 2026-27. Theis' decision to leave the Pacers is not surprising, as he was reportedly seeking a more significant role on a team with playoff aspirations. The Rockets, who have not reached the postseason since 2018, are expected to give Theis that opportunity. The 31-year-old German center is a versatile big man who can score inside and out, as well as defend multiple positions. He will be a valuable addition to the Rockets' young roster, which also includes rising stars Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr.
